Samiksha’s mom entered living room to find the smiling faces of her daughter and Karan. She sensed the joy on Samiksha’s face and asked,
“Um Karan, did you see the rose Samiksha received in the morning? Its a beautiful one. Certainly whoever is the sender admires her. Do you have any idea who might be the sender?”
“I sent it aunty, to your loving, doted, responsible daughter”, looking into Samiksha’s eyes, Karan replied without any inhibition to Samiksha’s mother, thereby proving his clear and true heart.
“I am so happy for you both. It takes a clear conscience to open your heart Karan. I am glad Samiksha chose you.”
Samiksha sprang up from the sofa to give a tight hug to her mother.
“I know aunty we both have been acquainted for a very short period but still . . “
“Karan, years of togetherness fails to bring life and love into relationships. Sometimes the best relation is the one which your heart and soul approves, instantly. There are no questions, no doubts. Your heart just says ‘yes’.”
“May I take your daughter out for some time?”
Samiksha eyed her mom,
with curiosity.
“Yes dear why not? Um can you have lunch and then go”
“Actually I promised dad to have lunch together. Next time for sure. One more thing . . . thank you”, saying this Karan hugged her mom.
In the evening, Karan and Samiksha left for their first outing. As soon as they sat in the car, Karan noticed the nervousness she felt.
“Hmm, when I came here today morning, I was full of doubts and um was woried too.”
“You and woried? Doesn’t go well”, she replied with a smirk.
“Madam, your approval was pending. How will my heart not worry ha?”, he took her hand carefully in his and continued, “I was really scared Samiksha. The way you left my office after our first meeting created some clouds of panic, but as soon as I saw your face, those disappeared.”
Samiksha was still under the sweet impact of his newly declared love for her. She looked at him and tried to put words together.
“I was rude that day. I took it too personally. When you have people applauding and praising your work, its difficult to accept criticism with grace.”
She rested her head on his shoulder and kept her hand on his chest, feeling his heartbeats.
Karan was happy
when Samiksha showed this gesture of trust towards him.
“Let us go. I want to show you a beautiful place.”
He drove the car towards a calm, pleasant destination. It was called as The Mayem Lake.
The joy on Samiksha’s face was not hidden from Karan. He opened the door of his car and gave his hand to get her out.
The view was eye pleasing and divine. It looked like a fairy tale was coming to life near the lovely Mayem Lake, one more time after many years.
The duo walked hand in hand towards the lake. The soothing breeze and the mixed red, yellow, orange shades of sky added to the beauty of that moment.

They sat on a bench and observed the calm serene beauty of the spot. Samiksha looked at him and said,
“You know what Karan my mom knows this place very well. She used to come here many years ago, along with . . . the love of her life.”
“Your dad ha.”
“No. She was in love with a boy when she was young. They were madly in love with each other, but he betrayed her.”
Karan glanced at her in anticipation.
“Their family was against their relationship. They decided to elope and marry. But the boy did not turn up at the last moment. My mom waited for him for long, but was heart broken and devastated. Love in the tender age can be very hurting Karan, especially if it doesn’t work out. Its very difficult to overcome that state. Luckily I haven’t experienced that trauma . . . “
“And you never will.”
Karan interrupted her.
“Sorry I spoke in between.”
“Its ok Karan. I love the way you speak your heart out and keep it free from cobwebs of unspoken thoughts. Um that is all I know about this place.”
“Co incidentally even my father shared a story of his youthful years and told me about the true love oh his life. And you know what, she wasn’t my mom. She was the girl he met years before and truly worshipped her. But things did not work out as planned.”
He giggled and continued.
“Samar Khanna, he had everything yet he could not marry the love of his life. I really pray to the universe that we stay together, as long as we live.”
Samiksha smiled.
“What?”
“Mr. Karan, I never knew you are a poetic lover.”
“Hmm, then you don’t know this chef at all.”
Saying this he cupped her face in his palms and looked deep into her eyes.
“I love you, Samiksha.”
She placed her hands on his and whispered, “I love you Karan.”
He kissed her in the beautiful backdrop of a setting sun in the midst of reddish yellow, calm sky.
