Madhu and Jolly accompanied her to the operation theatre. Nurse Roma assured them,
“Don’t worry mam. Its just a minor operation. Dr. Karan must have told you regarding the details.”
“Mum I don’t want to hear his name”, Samiksha clarified then and there.
Evidently, there was embarassment on the faces of Madhu and Jolly. Startled by the lash out, Roma was speechless. The three gave a look to each other. Breaking the ice, Roma said,
“Come on footballer, let us go inside.”
After all, the nurses and doctors knew very well to handle, such short tempered and adamant patients.
Assuring Samiksha, Madhu touched her hand,
“Don’t worry baby. I am right here for you. Dad will be coming day after tommorow.”
“Yes sweetheart, I know you are brave. A tough fighter that you are”, Jolly said in addition.
Both Madhu and Jolly looked at each other and together said,
“All the best.”
The lights were on
in the Operation Theatre. Samiksha had never undergone an operation, hence her heart was racing. She was looking around in the OT. Dr. Ram came there and said,
“Hi. Ms. Footballer. Hope you are all set for this mini operation?”
Dr. Ram was an orthopedic surgeon. Undoubtedly, he was not an exception to the other co operativeness and care the staff of the hospital offered to all.
Samiksha smiled at him and nodded.
“Dr. Karan has told to me take good care of you, so . .”
“Please don’t talk about him. Can we talk about something else,” Samiksha interrupted.
Dr. Ram had worked with Karan for almost four years. He saw a patient talk in this way regarding Karan for the first time.
“I am sorry to ask, but may I know the reason for this tone for him? I mean, he is a human par excellence.”
“Does he know to keep his promise?” Samiksha again interrupted.
“Hmm. In that case let him handle the matter. So ready?”
Samiksha grinned and the process began.
Madhu and Jolly were sitting just outside the OT. Needless to say, they were a bit tensed as Samiksha went inside an OT for the first time in her life.

A nurse came there and enquired,
“Are you Ms. Madhu?”
“Yes, what happened?”
“Mam a private ward
is available now. Till the operation completes, you can shift your things from the general ward to the private ward. Dr. Karan had told me to inform you at 11 am, as the ward was not free till then. Thank you.”
“In fact, we are thankful to you for the arrangements.”
“You can convey your thanks to Dr. Karan later. He had over and over informed at reception for the ward your patient wanted. Excuse me.”
A smile appeared on Madhu’s lips, as Karan had once again won her heart by his gesture.
As soon as the OT lights were off, both the care takers of Samiksha jumped from their chairs. Dr. Ram came out, waving a thumbs up sign to them.
“All is fine. Samiksha is unconscious now. It will take half an hour to regain consciousness. Don’t worry at all mam.”
Dr. Ram left from there leaving Madhu and Jolly with a sigh of relief.
Samiksha
was lying on her new bed in the new ward. Madhu, seated next to her. As she regained consciousness, she was whimpering in pain.
Nurse Roma came there and checked all the arrangements.

“Don’t worry mam. she is regaining consciousness, and that is the reason for feeling of pain. It was a surgery, no matter minor. So pain will be there. Medicines will help her recover. Her foot is in plaster now. So we will have to take utmost care for some weeks.”
As Samiksha opened her eyes, everything around seemed blurry first. She could barely speak,
“Mum.”
“Right here baby. Don’t worry all will be fine. Is it paining more?”
“Um. “
“Mam let us not make her speak for now. Let her rest. she will feel better by evening. After some time, you can feed her lunch. Any issues you can contact us. Take care.”
After completion of
the emergency operation, Dr. Karan was resting outside. Nurse Roma came there.
“So how was the surgery? You look exhausted.”
“All went well. Exhausted, yes, a lot. How is Samiksha? Her operation must have completed by now?”
Roma smiled and replied,
“She is fine. Just regained consciousness.”
“Any reason for that smile?”
“Seems like she is angry on you. She doesn’t want to even see you.” She burst into laughter.
Karan giggled and replied softly,
“I had informed her, I will be operating her, and you know what happened at the last minute. Her anger is valid.”
Roma was scrutinising her colleague.
“What?”
“Sir, I have never seen you talking about a patient with such depth.”
“Dr. Karan.”
A voice over interrupted their conversation.
A nurse came there for him.
“Dr. Karan, Roy Sir wants to see you.”
“Will catch up later. The reason for your smile? You owe me an answer. Bye.”
“Good afternoon sir.”
Karan greeted Dr. Roy.
Dr. Roy was the over all incharge of the Merciful Hands hospital. He had blind faith in Karan, and trusted him in the most delicate matters.
“Good afternoon my boy. You look tired. Take some rest ok. Just see in private ward no. 40, there is a new admission. Ms. Sakhi Kishore. Have you heard of her? The famous tarrot card reader.”
“Not actually. You know me sir. I am in my own world most of the times. Tell me.”
“She got food poisoning. Just meet her before you take some time off.”
“Sure sir, I will.”
Karan at once went to see
Ms. Sakhi.
“May I come in?”
“Yes please. See. What an irony! We predict future for others. I wish I knew this was approaching?”
Karan laughed and replied,
“That was hilarious mam. You look fine though. Am sure the positive aura of our hospital has made an impact.”
“But of course. I liked you staff. Dr. Karan, right?”
“Yes mam, absolutely. Nurse informed me she has given you necessary medicines and injection. So take rest now. You are under my observation. Feel free to tell me any problems or grievances.”
“Sure, I will. But for now, um may I?”
“Yes ofcourse. Go ahead.”
“Card reading is my profession and I also have studied horoscopy.”
Karan smiled and said without inhibition,
“Mam please speak your heart out. You are talking to the most cool person out in here. You can check my record.”
“I don’t need to do that Karan,”
Sakhi said with smile, “I knew your nature much before you started conversing with me.”
“I guess, its nothing to do with my future. Any issues of health or so?”
“Its related to your heart Mr. Karan.”
An amazed Karan was observing what she was trying to say.
“Your life is going to witness an emotional change, soon.”
“In the sense?”
Sakhi smiled and replied.,
“We only guide people, give them hints. We cannot show all the roads that will lead to your destiny. Or else you won’t enjoy walking on those.”
Karan was enjoying this conversation, but his hunger pangs and exhaustion were forcing him to go out, take a break.
“Well mam, then I will have to wait for that change. A pleasure talking to you. Take care. See you.”
“Same here Dr. Karan. You have a magnetic charm. People in my circle talked very high about you. Now I know why. See you later.”
“Am obliged you think in this manner for me. Or else there are patients who don’t want to even see my face,” Karan said at once.
Sakhhi burst out into a laughter spree, leaving Karan in dismay.
“See you doctor. Take good care of yourself, and your patients. Especially of the one upset with you. All the best for pacifying her. Bye.”
“Bye.”
How did Sakhi know that the patient was a female? The question popped up in Karan’s mind as soon as he stepped out of her ward.
