Jolly filled the form at the reception of Merciful hands Hospital, while Madhu was with Samiksha. As Samiksha cried in pain, Madhu held her hand, comforting her. Jolly and the two professors informed about the injury to the nurse who rushed there at once.
The receptionist had already informed them, that private wards were not available for the time being. In the mean time, Samiksha was taken to a special ward with two beds.
“Is Samiksha alright? Where is she?” Mahesh enquired on the phone as soon as he heard the news.
“I am with her. Jolly is also here. Don’t worry. Let us pray that there is nothing serious,” a rather disturbed Madhu informed for pacifying him.
“I will call you back. Don’t worry.”
Madhu disconnected the phone as she did not wish that Mahesh notices the panic and worry in her voice.
A doctor
arrived with two nurses, and examined her. They checked the leg, and noticed a swelling in the swollen foot. An injection was given to her. After proper inspection, the doctor informed,
“We shall take an X ray in some time. Meanwhile, this injection will give her relief,” saying this he left.
“Mum, who is that patient in the room? Am I going to share this room? No way.”
Inspite of the pain, Samiksha caught Madhu’s hand and asked.
“Child, there is no private ward free right now. No worries. We are here for your treatment. Your healing is more important than anything else right?”, Madhu tried to explain her.
“Mum, I don’t want to stay here, please take me somewhere else then. I don’t want anyone with me,” Samiksha was adamant.
Jolly and Madhu looked at each other, wondering what to do. Jolly informed a nurse but in vain.
“Sorry, we are helpless right now. We cannot do anything mam,” the nurse replied to them and left.
Madhu tried to calm down Samiksha,
who was driving her crazy.
“We will see what can be done ok.”
“Call the doctor mum, please,” Samiksha was adamant.
The nurse came there and informed,
“Mam, I am helpless. By the way, now we will be going to take an X ray of her leg. The stretcher is here. Still if you have any issues, you can talk to Dr. Karan Jaiswal. He is the incharge of this floor.”
Madhu calmed down Samiksha for the time being and they took her to the X ray room. It was diagnosed, that her foot had a minor metatarsal fracture.
After coming back from there, Samiksha started her tantrums again.
“Mum, either you take me to a private ward or I am not staying here,” she retaliated.
“I will be back in a moment. Jolly be with her,” Madhu left from there to find out if there can be a solution.
In the mean time,
a doctor entered the room. As soon as he saw Samiksha, his eyes stopped on her face. His eyebrows furrowed.

“Sir, can we proceed?,” nurse Roma interrupted his thoughts.
After a brief pause, he made his way to the other patient in the room.
“Can I get another room? I am not comfortable here,” Samiksha told the doctor, while Jolly was trying hard to stop her.
The doctor continued checking the other patient. He examined him and checked his reports.
Later, he had a word with the nurse regarding Samiksha and then moved towards her.
“You were trying to say something, while I was examining him. Is there any issue?” he asked her.
“Yes, there is. I don’t want to stay in this ward. Please shift me to a private ward, now,” Samiksha told in a cold tone.
“Sorry, but there is no private ward free right now. We can shift you as soon as they are available. But don’t worry, in any ward of this hospital, you will get the same care and attention,” he replied with a calm.
“In that case please call Dr. . .Um, jolly what was his name?”
“Dr. Karan Jaiswal”.
“Yep, call him here just now. He is the incharge, right?”
“Yes, absolutely. But his answer will be the same as mine,” he said confidently and started to move from there.
“How do you know his answer?”, Samiksha was quite furious now.
“Because I am Dr. Karan Jaiswal.”

Dr. Karan Jaiswal, hailing from a middle class family, his aim was to stick to treat all his patients with dedication and care. Karan stayed with his mother and grandma, not needed to say they had given up on the efforts to make him practical and realistic. Inspite of the opportunities to work abroad, owing to the unmatchable ability he had in his profession, he chose serving his country fellows. His innate nature of handling matters with calm and patience made him popular among not only his colleagues, but also all the patients he treated. His charming personality and good looks added to his already attractive persona.
Before Samiksha could say anything, he smiled and left from there.
Jolly smiled and looked at Samiksha.
“May I know the reason for this untimely smile of yours?”
“Um. Your doctor is quite good looking. What say?”, Jolly teased her.
“You are my friend right? First of all he is not listening to me. And . .”
“Baby, didn’t to you hear what he said? As soon as any private ward is free, we will shift there.”
Samiksha eyed her and turned her head to the opposite direction. Jolly smiled as usual and sat next to her.
Madhu and Jolly
decided on who will stay with Samiksha periodically. Samiksha went to sleep after spending her energy on disagreements and complaints.
The reports were ready and Karan came there with the nurse, Roma.
“Good evening mam. I guess you are her mom?”, Karan asked Madhu.
“Yes doctor. Are her reports fine?” Madhu asked him in a suppressed tone.
“Um. May I have a word with you in my cabin?” Karan asked Jolly and left with Madhu.

Inside his cabin,
Karan offered Madhu to sit on the chair and displayed Samiksha’s X ray on the viewing screen.
Before he could say anything, Madhu immediately told Karan,
“I am her aunt, not her mother actually, I thought to clarify. I have brought her up, since she was 5 years old. And hence . .”
Karan had a smile on his lips and he spoke,
“Sorry to interrupt you. I don’t know much about your family mam. And I am not so experienced as you, but just something heartfelt.”
Madhu looked at him eagerly.
“Mam, its not necessary to explain everything to everyone at all. The care you have for her isn’t hidden from me. Blood relations are bound by responsibilities, duties and the norms of right and wrong.
Karan had a habit of cracking his knuckles . . .

But relations which are bound by hearts,
are free from these attributes. They are beautiful and give us peace in all phases of life. You gave a part of your life to her mam, so your love is more pure than any one else’s in her life. I am sorry I made you emotional.” Karan said seeing Madhu’s eyes filled with tears. He offered her a glass of water.
“No, as a matter of fact, you made me so comfortable. I am sorry for taking so much time of yours. You were talking about Samiksha’s report,” Madhu said wiping her tears.
“The fracture is minor, as you heard while taking X ray in the morning. But the bone fragments are displaced, so a minor surgery is required,” he pointed towards the X ray, “The foot will be in plaster for six weeks after the surgery.”
“Surgery?” Madhu was paniced by the word.
“Don’t worry mam. You can be sure of the fitness of your daughter, very soon. I know she plays football. Do you trust me?”
“Yes,” said Madhu, unable to understand why she said a quick yes to him.
“Just one request doctor, please give us a private ward as soon as its available”.
“Sure mam. You have my word.” Karan said with the everlasting smile on his face.
Samiksha
had just woken up. Madhu held her hand, comforting her.
“How is my baby?”
“My foot is paining mum. But its ok. I can bear this pain. After all I am a footballer.” Samiksha said winking her eye.
“My darling daughter,” Madhu patted her head.
“I am still here, in this ward. Please call dad. I don’t like this hospital.”
“Samiksha, you trust me?”
“But ofcourse mum.”
“Then don’t nag for change of the room right now. The doctor is very good and understanding. He has assured to shift us as soon as the private ward is available. Somehow, I am glad that we came here.”
Very nicely written. Good. Lots of improvements. I mean to say fluency in the story writing. As if i m reading a novel. 👍great job my dear sis.😘😘
